Flat White Chick 1 Report post Posted October 16, 2012 Can anyone recommend an accountant and lawyer? We're starting to look at businesses now so will need both to help with purchase and set-up if we find something suitable. Nothing flash, not looking for big corporate set-ups, just good solid reliable and experienced with small business, kind of guys or gals. Much appreciated... Petals 1 Report post Posted October 16, 2012 Once you know where you will be settled, give the Law Institute a ring and they will give you some solicitors in your area who may be also able to recommend an accountant.

Flat White Chick 1 Report post Posted January 31, 2013 No - to be honest stopped looking. With all the specialist appointments for junior and then the school hols I haven't really had time to think about it. OH is happy in his new job and I'm not sure I have the will to start something on my own. Not sure what to do really, maybe once the rounds of specialists are done and I get into anything remotely approaching a routine I will have a more serious think about what to do with my life! Petals 1 Report post Posted January 31, 2013 Just phone the Law Institute and ask for a list of Small Business lawyers. Make sure you get a quote and a free consult first.
Alan Collett 0 Report post Posted February 28, 2013 If I might be so bold - start with finding an accountant who you feel comfortable with (and who speaks your language), and then take the accountant's suggestions as to which solicitor/s s/he recommends. With all due respect to my lawyer friends, of course ... Best regards.
Flat White Chick 1 Report post Posted February 28, 2013 Hi Alan Thanks for your thoughts. To be honest it's been off the boil for a bit as I haven't been very proactive in finding a new business. My accountant in NZ is great - works from home and is an ex-pat too ( coincidence, wasn't a prerequisite), we are in the process of wrapping things up there for the year end (April) and then I need to find a tax expert here as things are a bit complicated. OH has been working here since October but we have been resident for tax purposes in NZ (due to the company ownership), so although he has tax deducted directly from his wages I'm not sure how it will work with our tax returns. Plus we both receive military pensions in the UK (one regular pension, currently taxed in UK and two tax-free war pensions, which I believe we need to get a private ruling on). Also I have no idea on entitlement to tax allowances, if any, as we are on SCV (444) and too old to qualify for PR! Do you know when we have to submit tax returns by here? If you know anyone that would fit the bill (but not charge a kings ransom ) - recommendations would be much appreciated. Cheers. Shannon
