  1. Also posted in the Job Vacancies section. On behalf of a friend who runs a successful and fast growing European uPVC double glazing window company in Melbourne, VIC, can you please private message me or reply to this post if you would be interested in forwarding your CV and I will give you contact details. They are very interested in finding applicants with a good history of working in the UK having years of experience in joinery/carpentry and installation of uPVC double glazed units. They currently import the windows from the UK as the quality is superior to the current standard Australian double glazing. They need someone with solid skills in joinery/carpentry as the way Australian houses are built are very different to UK houses so when measuring and then installing the uPVC double glazed units, you are often required to think outside the box and adapt or create a solution involving joinery work so the units are securely and perfectly fitted. The company is based in the South East suburbs of Melbourne but you are required to work throughout Victoria. Manual driver's license required as you will be driving a van to and from site. You need to have your visa as the company does not sponsor employees so please ensure you have the right to work in Victoria before applying. I will monitor the responses to this post and my inbox. Get in touch if you are seriously interested. Suitable candidates will be contacted asap.
  2. Thanks for the advice Petals. I have noticed the prices in Somerville rising over the last few years in particular as we were starting to worry we wouldn't be able to afford our own place the way the house prices have been going so I suppose I should be thinking myself lucky that we actually own our own property now. I like Bittern and we put offers on a few houses in both Tyabb and Bittern before we moved to Somerville but we missed out by a few thousand that put the houses we were looking at just out of budget. I have also been told there was a house a couple of streets from us that was quite run down but on a bigger plot of land that was sold a few years ago and they must have demolished the original house and built townhouses on the plot. Trying to keep that in mind at the moment as we do have room for units if a developer did decide to buy our place. I did go for a walk this morning though. It is a lovely place here and although it is windy today, I could see all the way to the sea from the top of the hill at Bayvista.
  3. Thanks Petals. I'm just sussing out other areas at the moment. We're keeping a look out for houses for sale still in Somerville but they're all too expensive for us so no point really. It's depressing feeling stuck and problems in the area we are just now are getting me down n making me lose sight of why we moved here. I'm not sure if it's the fact I'm terribly homesick and missing my old friends back home that's making it harder just now. When you're new to an area with no friends it makes it feel worse.
  4. Looking at houses in this area. What are the best state primary and secondary schools please? Is this a nice area? We're in Somerville just now and are not happy here so looking g around. Frankston South, Langwarrin and Mornington are too expensive for what we can afford. Don't want to have to do a full Reno again as we've already been through it and are fed up. Thanks

  6. Peninsula back beaches

Hello again. Sorry for the delay in replying - lost my password and took ages to get round to doing anything about it. I ended up at Flinders and got a lot of exercise up and down the steps to the beach before realising I could take the car right down to the pier! Liked the actual town of Flinders too. Very nice for lunch. Point Leo is nice too. Very big breaking waves on the beach. Ended up just sticking to the bayside after all as my family weren't too happy with the surf beaches and I wasn't really enjoying going on my own after all. Thanks for the ideas though - thinking of taking a trip to Gunnamatta for some proper sea spray. Missing the beaches from back home for once! Shocking, I know...
  7. Dog carriers in cars. Help please!

Thanks for replying and sorry for not being on here for a while. I lost my password and didn't get round to resetting it quickly Our puppy has already outgrown the carrier so I've ended up just using the harness and dog seatbelt that just clicks into the normal seatbelt holder. It's not ideal as he still gets car sick so have had to put towels everywhere when he's in the car! It is awful. At least when he fit in a dog carrier, we could contain it a bit. Sorry for TMI there! No solution to this one. Just trying to avoid car travel with him as much as poss!
  8. We got a puppy. He's getting big now and will soon need a large dog carrier but it no longer fits buckled onto the seats so will only fit in the boot without parcel shelf. Are you allowed to do this? I can't find anything that doesn't talk about small dog carriers that fit in the car with seatbelt around it. The only other guidance is about utes. I need the carrier cos the dog's getting an operation as I usually use a harness n seatbelt attachment. Thanks for any help
  9. What are the best back beaches or not on the bay side beaches? Just wanting to go for a walk to blow away the cobwebs and watch the waves crashing in. Not going near the water myself, just feeling blue and needing some sea air, sand and big waves. Thanks. Oh, and I love all the beaches from Sorrento down through Rosebud but wanting a change. I need to be able to park the car not too far away too.
  10. Just bought our first house!

Hi everyone, We emigrated almost 2 years ago and I've always been lurking on Pomsinoz so now we have bought our first house in Somerville, Victoria I thought I would actually join this forum. It's been a long process getting to this stage and finally owning our own place. It's also really strange moving to a new area and starting again after we had been quite settled renting but there you go. All change again. I know there are quite a few on here that live in or near Somerville and down the Peninsula so I can pick your brains on what to do around here! Most of our time just now is slowly doing up our house as it is a definite doer upper.
